WHAT WE DO
Our main activity is to produce peanut seeds supervised by Instituto Nacional de Semillas de Argentina (INASE).
El Carmen is the only peanuts breeder known by its creation of seeds varieties, it develops them and multiplies them by its own sowings with own machinery without depending of any other mediator, which gives more reliability and finally, seeds are processed in its own plant.
OBJECTIVES
CRIADERO’s objectives are obtain permanently peanut varieties with special attributes, superior in its agronomical aspect and capable to respond to producers, processors, manufacturing and consumers demands in local and international ambit.
As specific purposes Criadero El Carmen looks for special products, obtain new market and customers, to be pioneer in peanut improvement area and connect with the best investigation centers to make joined efforts in the constant seedling improvement of peanut.
BRIEF HISTORY
Criadero El Carmen is at the peanut heart of Argentina, located in General Cabrera, Córdoba province.
In 1982, it started to make the first works in peanut improvements, testing different genotypes from very different origins.
In June 1982 it achieved the formal registry as “Criadero de Maní” (Peanut Breeder) from the Instituto Nacional de Semillas de la República Argentina (INASE), under the number A/0074.
In 1986, the first crossings were done and the first populations were obtained for the peanut “runner” type, with new characteristics within the local field.
In 1994, were launched to the market the first two varieties “runner” type, called TEGUA and NAHUEL.
In 2001, Criadero makes available for the markets the MANIGRAN variety.
In 2003, has been released the first high oily peanut variety obtained in Latin America “runner” type called GRANOLEICO, actually the most widespread one in our country. Subsequently has been added EC-12 and EC-48 (AO) varieties.
In March 2013 has been presented into the peanut chain two new varieties: EC 98 (AO) which has shown being more resistant to the hydric-stress conditions and GUASU (AO), the first peanut “Virginia” type in the market with oily acid high-contained produced in Argentina.
